Become a WRO Volunteer

There are many ways to be part of the World Robot Olympiad

A few hours a week, a few hours a month or even just volunteering at the annual qualifier event in August. Volunteers are what makes our events happen. We need your help to inspire the next generation of STEM professionals.

Volunteers

Volunteers play a significant role in the success of running a WRO event. We would not be able to host such events without the generous support of volunteers like you. Our volunteers can donate their time for a few hours, half a day or the entire day. As a volunteer you have the unique and exciting opportunity to watch our young participants learn, invent, develop, work as a team and compete while having a lot of fun participating.

Our volunteers come from all different types of backgrounds bringing a verify of experience from their professional lives and other experiences. All are welcome to assist with our events. Our competition takes place on the second Saturday in August every year. We need over 20 volunteers to make this event run smoothly.

Volunteers at WRO competitions

Support one of our local WRO scrimmages or the National Qualifier. Our WRO competition take place on one day on a weekend. Here are a few ways on how you can get involved:

  • Referee: A referee rates a robot ride on a Regular Category course or a football game in the Football Category. As a rule, no special preparation is necessary for this and on the day of the competition you will receive an introduction to the rules of the competition and the tasks to be evaluated.
  • Jury Member: As a jury member you evaluate teams in the Open Category. Teams will present their robot model in the form of a presentation, where questions can still be asked afterwards. Jury members receive information on the evaluation of the teams during a jury meeting on the morning of the competition day.
  • Photographer or Technical Specialist: Help us capture our events and share with the teams, parents and on social media. We greatly appreciate assistance from individuals with photography, vidoeography and technology specialists to asssit with networking, sound and lighting matters.
  • Setup: Assist for hour before a scrimmage or 2 hours the night before to help setup game tables and team tables and chairs.
  • Breakdown: After any event assist with putting tables and chairs away and loading game tables up for storage.
  • Welcome Packet Assembly: 3 days before assist with assembling badges and welcome packages for teams.
